Dr. Maria Tzanou is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Keele University, UK. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute (EUI) and LLM degrees from Cambridge University, the University of Athens and Bordeaux IV and the EUI. Her research focuses on European constitutional and human rights law, privacy, data protection, big data and the Internet of things, counter-terrorism surveillance and transatlantic data privacy cooperation. She has published in journals such as International Data Privacy Law, Human Rights Law Review, Common Market Law Review, Yearbook of European Law and German Law Journal. Her book The Fundamental Right to Data Protection: Normative Value in the Context of Counter-Terrorism Surveillance was published in 2017.
