Bouchagiar

European Commission (EU)

Antonios Bouchagiar is a member of the Legal Service of the European Commission, currently working in the team dealing with institutional aspects of EU law and data protection, while in the past he worked for several years in the team in charge of EU State aid law. He regularly litigates on behalf of the Commission before the EU Courts in Luxembourg. He is also an adjunct professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB; Brussels School of Governance), as well as at the Brussels School of Competition. Prior to joining the Legal Service, he handled cases of merger control in the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission. Before joining the Commission, he was an associate lawyer in the antitrust group of the Brussels offices of Shearman & Sterling LLP and Howrey LLP. He has published various articles and books on EU law, in particular on competition law, State aid law, data protection and internal market law. Mr Bouchagiar graduated from the University of Athens (LL.B., LL.M. in civil law), the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Erasmus) and the College of Europe in Bruges (LL.M. in EU law with specialisation in economic analysis).
