EU Cloud Code of Conduct

Belgium

The EU Cloud Code of Conduct (EU Cloud CoC) is a transnational Code of Conduct under Article 40 of the GDPR, endorsed by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB). It sets out practical guidance for cloud service providers on how to implement the requirements of Article 28 GDPR. Applicable across all cloud service layers—Infrastructure (IaaS), Platform (PaaS), and Software (SaaS)—the Code establishes a standardized compliance framework. Adherence is independently monitored by SCOPE Europe, the accredited monitoring body. The Code has been adopted by a wide range of providers of all sizes, covering a significant share of the European cloud services market.
The European Commission’s Second Report on the application of the GDPR provides a critical opportunity to evaluate regulatory effectiveness and ongoing challenges. This workshop will reflect on the Report’s key takeaways, including persistent implementation hurdles and enforcement gaps. The interactive discussion aims to address the crucial findings of the Report while exploring workable solutions to mitigate compliance obstacles organizations face daily. Participants will, therefore, examine practical steps to enhance GDPR implementation, from harmonizing regulatory guidance to fostering solutions that address operational realities. By bringing together diverse perspectives, this workshop will dive into the role of collaborative efforts to ensure robust and uniform protection of personal data across the EU, ensuring the GDPR’s long-term impact, and a robust and future-proof compliance landscape.
