Richard Tomsett works in the Emerging Technology team in IBM Research, where he specialises in AI and data science applications across a broad range of industries. He is also a researcher in the Distributed Analytics & Information Sciences International Technology Alliance, a 10-year program that brings together partners from government, academia and industry in the UK and US to conduct collaborative fundamental research on distributed analytics. His focus in this program is on interpretable and adversarial machine learning, particularly in distributed computing environments. Prior to joining IBM, Richard completed a PhD in theoretical neuroscience at Newcastle University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship studying neural information processing at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan. He only occasionally misses the sub-tropical island lifestyle.
