Gavin Phillipson is Professor of Law at Bristol University, with interests in privacy, the ‘right to delete’, libel and comparative free speech law. He has published extensively in top journals in the UK, Canada and the US and is co-author of the leading text Media Freedom under the Human Rights Act (2006, Oxford University Press), with Professor Fenwick. His work on the right to privacy in England has been extensively cited by the top courts in the UK and New Zealand Court of Appeal and by the Media Lawyer’s Association in their intervention to the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Von Hannover v Germany (no 2) (2012). His evidence has been extensively cited by the UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Privacy and Injunctions and Joint Committee on Human Rights.
