Stefania Milan (stefaniamilan.net) is Associate Professor of New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Her research explores technology and participation, cybersecurity and internet governance, and emerging data epistemologies. She is the Principal Investigator of the projects DATACTIVE (data-activism.net) and ALEX-Algorithms Exposed (algorithms.exposed), both funded by the European Research Council and investigating from different perspectives the evolution of activism and publics in the age of datafication. She holds a PhD in political and social sciences of the European University Institute; prior to joining UvA, she worked at the Citizen Lab (University of Toronto) and Tilburg University. Stefania is the author of Social Movements and Their Technologies: Wiring Social Change (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), and co-author of Media/Society (Sage, 2011).
