From 2013 to 2017, Etienne was a group policy advisor for the committee on civil liberties, justice and home affairs in the European Parliament, following legislative and policy developments in this field. He notably participated to the legislative process and negotiations leading up to the adoption of the GDPR and the Data Protection Directive. In 2017, Etienne joined the French data protection authority (CNIL) within its international affairs department, where he took part to the work of the Presidency team of the Working Party 29. Etienne now continues contributing to the work of the EDPB, in particular by participating to the development of guidelines on the GDPR key provisions, as well as on data protection and law enforcement related matters.
