Karolina La Fors is a postdoc researcher within the e-SIDES project at the Centre for Law and Digital technologies (eLaw), Leiden University. Within her team she focuses on the ethical, social, legal, economic and technological challenges around privacy-preserving big data technologies. Karolina studied both law and social sciences and holds a PhD in data protection and human rights law. Her PhD research dealt with the data protection, human rights and socio-technical implications of digital prevention and identification practices of the Dutch government for the lives of children and migrants. Her analysis dealt with how risk profiles emerged in practice and what their effects have been on the rights and identity of these often ‘marginalized’ citizens.
