Katharina Koerner is an experienced senior manager with a strong interest in new technologies, privacy, and information security. As a member of the IAPP research team, she specializes in the intersection of privacy and technology, focusing on areas such as privacy engineering, privacy by design, privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), and privacy frameworks. Prior to joining the IAPP, Katharina served as the CEO of a culture and language institute with multiple campuses in Europe. During her tenure, she successfully implemented GDPR compliance across the organization and expanded its reach by establishing new campuses in Sarajevo and Moscow. Katharina has actively pursued knowledge and certifications in information security management and privacy, including CIPP/US, ITIL 4, IEC/ISO 27001, SANS Security Awareness Professional, and the Stanford Advanced Cybersecurity Certificate. She also has a strong background in policy advising and legal roles within the Austrian Ministry of the Interior and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Katharina holds a PhD in EU Law from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and a JD from the University of Graz, Austria. She further enriched her education by studying international politics at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po). With her diverse background and expertise, Katharina brings a comprehensive perspective to the field of privacy and technology.
