He received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1978, 1980, and 1995, respectively. His research interests include natural language processing, machine translation and lexical semantics. He was working at the Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL) from 1980 to 1995, was working at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) from 1995 to 2009, and was working as a professor at Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) from 2010 to 2021. From April, 2021, he is working at Otemon Gakuin University.
