Short BIO

Charles D. Raab is Professor Emeritus and Honorary Professorial Fellow, School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh. He was Professor of Government, and has held other visiting positions. Research interests include public policy, governance, regulation, information policy and practice, privacy, surveillance. He has researched and published extensively, e.g. (with C. Bennett), The Governance of Privacy (2006), and (with Surveillance Studies Network), A Report on the Surveillance Society (2006; 2010 update) for the UK's ICO. He is involved in several EU 7th Framework projects on privacy, surveillance, security, etc. He has advised and consulted for governmental and other bodies in the UK, the EU, New Zealand and the Netherlands. He was Specialist Adviser, House of Lords Constitution Committee for Surveillance: Citizens and the State (2008-09), HL Paper 18. He is a Founding member of the Scottish Privacy Forum, and a board member of many journals and research projects. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK).
