CPDP Conference 2012 Panel 'Workshop on Privacy Impact Assessment: Past – Present - Future' presentation

From PIAs to engineering practice

A PIA process consists of collecting evidences of a design process in order to assess whether a system will conform to a given data protection legal framework. PIAs  imply that a proper privacy-by-design process is been applied. This presentation will focus on issues related to such process, i.e. to the practice of privacy-by-design. The concept of engineering enablers will be introduced; The need for establishing an engineering discipline will be elaborated. The security engineering forum initiative will be presented.

CPDP Conference 2010

Bringing Stakeholders together for Privacy friendly ITS applications

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) bring the promise of more safety, comfort, security, environment preservation and energy consumption reduction. However, the resulting increase in electronics and communications is raising security and privacy issues that could jeopardise deployment. The eSecurity Working Group was set up within the eSafety Forum as a discussion platform involving all stakeholders to discuss vulnerability aspects of electronics and communications in road transport while taking into account existing practice and emerging Research and Technology Development (RTD) initiatives. Two recommendations are identified concerning privacy issues: First of all agree on a privacy-by-design approach that will be endorsed by stakeholders. Secondly, put in place some longer term concertation activities that will cope with evolving privacy enhancing technologies.
