Assessor jur. Kirsten Bock studied law and legal philosophy at the Christian-Albrecht-Universitaet zu Kiel, Germany and at the University of Surrey, UK. She worked as a research assistant to Prof. Robert Alexy in Kiel. Kirsten joined the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection (Unabhaengiges Landeszentrum fuer Datenschutz, ULD), Germany in 2004. She is an expert in European civil registration systems and privacy certifications. She has lectured at the University of Applied Science for Administration and Services Altenholz and the University of Applied Science Kiel and is appointed as an external expert for OECD/ODIHR. At ULD she works as International eGovernment Coordinator and Senior Project Manager and is responsible for EuroPriSe – European Privacy Seal.

Abstract
Privacy seals are considered an incentive to promote privacy enhancing technologies (PETs). The issuing trust authority, procedures and criteria underlying the certification scheme are substantial for the success. After one year of practice the European Privacy Seal project gained practical experiences concerning industry and market acceptance, obstacles involved and indicators of success that will be shared in this session.
